A touch of Gold - The Keum-boo Process
Taught by Jayne Redman
September 20-21, 2008 from 9am - 4:30pm at Monnda Welch's studio in Pittsboro.
Cost: $150 for members (you must be a member to participate). Add $20 to your fee to join NCSG.
Keum-boo is a beautiful and cost effective technique used to diffusion bond gold and silver to the surface of jewelry and hollowware. In this workshop you will learn all the basics; rolling your own 24k gold foil, many ways of cutting the material, applying it to three dimensional, flat, and textured metal surfaces, and techniques for finishing. We will be using different metals and patinas to create various color combinations and will discuss ways to use the technique in production as well as one-of-a-kind work. You may bring finished pieces in sterling or 18k to embellish, or create pieces to finish in class. Bring your favorite hand tools, gloves, a burnisher and a hotplate if you have one.
Registration: Send your name and payment of $150 ($170 for non-members) to: NCSG, P.O. Box 196, Pittsboro NC 27312. Also, please reserve your space by emailing John Fetvedt at fetvedt@mindspring.com, or calling John at 919-787-9874.
